A Family’s Agony: well of sorrow
His father had left the house early morning without having breakfast. He had a quarrel with his Wife. She was weeping but was busy preparing lunch. She had to do all these chores inspite of her sadness. Not like her husband who could take a break from his duties, if he wanted
"Mom don’t cry, dad will be back" consoled the son
"He left in the morning. He has never done this before, no matter how much we quarreled" said the Mother. "Can you go and find out?"
"Any idea where he could have gone?"
"He meets his friends almost everyday, why don’t you check with them? This is a small village, you can find him easily John"
"Ok"
Saying so the son left the house and checked with all his Father’s friends
Ricaon a friend said "Your father doesn’t join us these days. Check at the tree near the large well in the outskirts of the village, that’s where he sits alone, of late"
John ran towards the well worried about his father, fearing if had jumped into the well
As he approached there he could see a group of people around the well looking inside at those who were apparently attempting to lift something. John pushed through and with great anxiety peered in
"The body is stuck underneath and the clothes are tearing apart if we pull" said one of the volunteers, placing the partially retrieved clothes on the stone steps above water level
As john was looking at the clothes with hazy eyes, pondering on its increasing familiary, he could recognize them as his father’s shirt. He called his mother unable to express his sadness and emotionally perplexed. On hearing this and greatly upset, his mother left all her jobs unattended and came running towards the well to see
The men had a difficult time pulling out the body and it was not clear to anyone who it was
As mother was looking inside weeping, a hand touched her shoulder. She turned around to find her husband. He was alive and one of the onlookers too
"Why did you leave the home? If you are angry with me why don’t you talk it out. You made me really upset, you would have nearlky killed me with an heart attack" said the mother
"Worried that I drowned is it?" he said smiling innocently and inappropriately
"Yes, very much. Are you happy now that you made be cry this week? You wanted to see that isn’t it?"
"I wanted to see how much you and my son loved me if I died, that’s all. I feel sorry now"
A loud voice from the well startled her, "We managed to pull him" and started to lift the body out of water
To the mother’s astonishment it was her husband whose body was found. She turned around and found no one
Her heartbeat nearly stopped and she fell down unconscious when her son ran towards her crying for the loss.
